Summerhall Corporate is the financial arm of Summerhall, mainly dealing in the corporate and financial market place. Clients include banks, investment managers, investment trust and PLC companies. The work is mainly annual reports and related items through to legal merger and buyout documentation.

OVERVIEW OF TYPESETTING

There is a small dedicated and professional team who are geared to meet the aspirations and deadlines in a time-critical environment. Most of this work is produced using Arbortext 3B2 publishing software. The PC-based system is a sophisticated and powerful tool, designed to meet the ever-increasing demands for fast, accurate production. Typesetting is fully backed up by a studio with full Mac and scanning facilities. The division operates a round-the-clock service providing electronic and physical proofing as required.

The software provides the ability to provide track changes utilising a dedicated cumulative black-lining system that can be applied on a proof by proof basis as required. A company Web Proofing facility is also available on a secure server.

Files are produced for electronic, digital and litho publishing. Multi-language work is also very well supported.

Introduction
Summerhall Proof was developed in 2000 as a client focussed browser-based web tool designed to enable customers follow hierarchically the progress of their print jobs. Because these jobs follow a series of important proofing stages, a chronological representation of each proof level had to be presented to the viewer. Since its development it has shown itself to be highly reliable, flexible and easy to use.

High reliability and server up-time are primary considerations. The site works on PC, Mac and UNIX platforms in the same way, as no use is made of platform- or vendor-specific technology.

Security
Once a customer has logged onto their Summerhall Proof account, all information sent to and received from their browser is in the form of an encrypted point-to-point conversation between only their computer (a security key is exchanged with the client's browser during the session) and the server. It is a virtual impossibility for any data sent or received during the session to be intercepted and viewed by an unauthorised third party en route to the intended recipient.
The way Summerhall Proof has been designed makes it possible to extend and add to its range of features so that additional requirements can be added specifically for a given task. These can be programmed and added in where feasible.

Requirements
No special arrangements or special software are required to use this site. Any level 4 (or higher) browser and an internet connection on any type of computer are all that are needed. Where large files are expected to be viewed or sent, a broadband or high speed network connection is required.

Logging In
When pointing your browser at www.summerproof.co.uk, you will be presented with a log-in screen that will verify your unique username and password:

Once your log-in identity has been validated against the system’s server database, a security key is transferred to your computer for the duration of your session. Additionally, folder level security can be applied to assign permissions to specific folders only and not others, so that once the user has logged into their account, it's possible to allow only certain individuals access to given sets of folders. Note that all usernames and passwords are case sensitive.

After logging in, you will be able to browse your account, job folders and the files contained within. Bear in mind also that the colour scheme and appearance can be customised to suit your own particular company colours and look-and-feel criteria. The images shown here are using the default colour scheme.

Files are displayed, timed and dated as above. Each file has a hyperlink allowing viewing of the file and an accompanying hyperlink allows the user to action or request a change to each file. Files can also be downloaded and printed locally via the hyperlink.

Sending Files
In addition to viewing and downloading content, new files can be uploaded by you to us while logged into your account. For example, you may wish to send a Word document to be typeset by us, or simply a large, high-resolution graphic image for inclusion in a folder for a third party to pick up and view or work on at another location later. Single or multiple files may be uploaded from Summerhall Proof and once again this data is transmitted in a completely secure way.

With live accounts, we recommend that passwords be changed on a regular basis to ensure continued security.

Making Comments and Requesting Changes
It may be that a file already on the system requires to be worked on or altered, perhaps to have new copy added to a report, or for a graphic to be changed. You can use the Job Commenting Page to request changes, make comments and to associate messages with a particular upload or existing file.

On the left, you will see the file displayed is this file is a PDF, Word or Excel document or an image file.
